Happy Birthday Chuck Norris

My favorite hero of all time, Chuck Norris.  His birthday is today, March 10th.  He's 71 and can still roundhouse kick your butt.  Anyway, every year I do something for his birthday.  It's becoming something of an "in joke".  The problem is- I'm the only one "in" on it.  That being said, if you know me even a little, two of my most favorite things are Chuck Norris and New York tabloid headlines (from the NY Daily News & The NY Post)  I live for their over the top, 3 inch, world-is-ending headlines about the most trivial subjects.  I run to the newsstand with anticipation about what will capture their fancy.
The headline: "See ya later Al-Qaeda" has stuck in my head for years.  It was a Daily News cover in Nov. 2001.  Chuck Norris is always in my head.  I put the two together and this is what I came up with.
Happy birthday Chuck.

Jhonny Vegas

My new favorite golfer is Jhonny Vegas.  Yes, that's his real name.  His full name is Jhonattan Vegas, he's Venezuelan and just starting out on the PGA Tour.  He's already won 2 tournaments in his short career but with a name like that- he should be a household brand.  I believe he's already with Nike (I've seen it on his hats) but Nike has got to kick it into overdrive with this guy.  The name is just too good.
I did this project on my own, as a labor of love, may be somebody in Oregon will see it and give me a call. Jhonny Vegas needs his own line, his own brand.  I'm not saying he'll ever reach Jordan, LeBron or Tiger levels of marketing, but, with his name, he should have a much higher profile.

Purple

Through a friend I recently came across a website called artjumble.  It's a blog, a sort of online community of artists who post their work on that weeks' theme.  A new topic comes out every Monday.
Sadly though, they are not taking anymore members.  No matter.  Every week I now have a new idea to jumpstart my mind.  This week the topic was: Purple.  The first thing I think of is Prince.  The second thing is the The Joker.   So I put them together in  movie poster, face-off kind of way.  Let me know what you think.  I'll be looking for next week's theme on Monday.

Hell's Kitchen

My daily commute takes me to Port Authority.  It's one of my favorite NYC spots.  It's Old New York.
Not many places left in New York like the area around Port Authority.  I'd like to do a series of drawings
around it.  Don't know if these are tee shirt type prints; may be posters?  Anyone from the New York City board of tourism can hit me up.  I'm thinking big I know.

In the Know

My latest submission to threadless.com.  My previous one wasn't accepted, not surprised really, they don't allow that kind of theme.  This one is more their taste- I hope.  I'll let you know.

F U Money

I'm a fan of business & finance and I spent way too much time reading about them.  One day last week I was reading one of my favorite business blogs and came across the phrase "F U Money".  I had to laugh, everyone knows that saying but I hadn't heard it in a while.  Then I thought to myself: How funny would it be if that was a tee shirt logo?  Seeing as I design tee shirts for a living it made perfect sense.  Here's what I came up with.  The first two ideas are from my sketchbook, the last three are from illustrator & photoshop of the finished work.  I submitted it to threadless.com as well.  Don't know if the artwork is too mature for them but I thought the logo was too clever to let pass.  Hopefully they accept it, I'll let you know.
